Define what each system owns

An integration needs a clear contract: which system creates a record, which may update it, and what happens when the same information changes in two places. We map identifiers, required fields, timing, and ownership before implementing requests. That planning prevents a successful API connection from becoming an unreliable business process. The right design depends on whether the workflow needs immediate confirmation or can complete asynchronously.

Build for more than the successful response

Services time out, credentials expire, and responses change. A dependable integration needs to distinguish temporary errors from permanent ones and decide which operations can safely be retried. Duplicate events should not create duplicate business actions. Where an operation spans systems, we plan a way to reconcile partial completion. Clear status and diagnostic information help your team see what happened without exposing secrets or unnecessary personal data.

REST endpoints and application boundaries

We build endpoints that validate input, enforce authorization, and return a consistent response. The API should expose the capability the caller needs without granting broad access to internal records. Versioning, pagination, and error formats matter when other applications depend on the interface. For existing ColdFusion software, an API boundary can provide a practical way to connect a modern interface or external service while retaining established business logic.

Webhooks, scheduled jobs, and synchronization

Some integrations receive events; others poll or run on a schedule. Webhooks need authenticity checks where the provider supports them, duplicate handling, and an understood processing path. Scheduled synchronization needs a record of progress and a plan for missed or overlapping runs. Rate limits and large datasets influence batching and timing. We choose the approach around the business requirement and provider contract rather than assuming every connection should run in the users browser request.

Test the boundaries before release

We verify representative payloads, invalid inputs, permission failures, timeouts, and duplicate events as appropriate to the integration. Test environments and provider sandboxes can help establish behavior before production credentials are used. Deployment includes configuration and a way to confirm that live traffic is being processed correctly. Bring the systems you want to connect and a description of the manual work between them; we will help define the data flow and the recovery requirements.

Questions worth asking.

Can you connect our existing ColdFusion application?

Yes. We can build or consume APIs from the application and define how authentication, data validation, and errors should be handled.

What if the provider does not have an API?

We first check supported integration methods such as structured imports or exports. Unsupported scraping or fragile automation should not be assumed to be a dependable substitute.

Can data sync in both directions?

Yes when the systems support it, but ownership and conflict rules must be defined. Bidirectional synchronization needs more planning than a one-way transfer.
