A request such as fix the report can hide several different problems. The numbers may be wrong, the query may be slow, or the interface may make the correct data difficult to interpret. We begin by reproducing the behavior and clarifying the expected result. Representative examples help distinguish an application defect from a data problem or a missing requirement. This gives the work a concrete acceptance target and reduces the chance that a small change creates a different problem elsewhere.
Custom CFML features and business logic
We build and extend forms, dashboards, customer portals, administrative tools, reports, and database-backed workflows. The implementation may use existing templates, new CFCs, or an API boundary, depending on how the application is organized. We pay attention to input validation, authorization, output encoding, and consistent error behavior. Where a workflow changes multiple records, we consider the appropriate transaction boundary and how incomplete operations should be recovered. The intention is code that another developer can understand and a feature that users can actually rely on.
Debugging with evidence
Useful debugging starts with a reproducible case. We follow the request through the relevant code, queries, and service calls, then check the proposed fix against both the failure and neighboring behavior. For intermittent problems, better logging or a focused diagnostic may be the first step. Logs should help identify the operation and outcome without exposing credentials or unnecessary personal information. When an issue involves production data, access and diagnostic methods need to match the sensitivity of that data and the operational constraints of the system.
Connect interfaces, databases, and external services
CFML programming often sits between people and data. We work on JSON endpoints, AJAX-driven interactions, MySQL and SQL Server queries, imports, exports, and scheduled jobs. External integrations introduce additional failure modes: an expired token, a timeout, a duplicate event, or a changed response. We design the workflow around those possibilities. A visible status, a retry policy, and a reconciliation path can matter more than simply proving that an API request succeeds once.
Keep changes understandable
Before implementation, we agree what the change includes and what it depends on. During development, we keep the work organized so it can be reviewed and released with an understood scope. Important calculations, permission checks, and error cases deserve meaningful verification. We also document any new configuration and operational steps. For inherited applications, this may involve improving one area at a time rather than restructuring everything. The best approach is the one that makes the requested behavior reliable while leaving a clearer system for the next change.
A useful first engagement
Bring a feature brief, a reproducible issue, or a description of the workflow that needs improvement. If the request is broad, a scoped discovery phase can identify the code paths, dependencies, and data involved. We can then recommend a sequence of work and define acceptance criteria. For larger architecture or version changes, a modernization review may be the better starting point; for routine continuity, support and maintenance may fit better. We will help match the engagement to the problem rather than treating every request as a rebuild.
Questions worth asking.
Can you handle a small ColdFusion fix?
A focused repair can be a good starting point when the behavior can be reproduced and the relevant environment is accessible. We first establish scope and release requirements.
Can you work with our existing team?
We can discuss an arrangement that fits your development and review process, including responsibilities for code review, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
Will you need production access?
Not for every task. A representative development environment is preferable for implementation and testing. Any production access should be limited to what the engagement requires.
